David Fobes has just returned from the 58th Meeting of Nobel Laureates and Students in Lindau, Germany with focus on Physics.
The meeting was a week long conference of 24 Nobel Laureates and ~560 students from 67 countries chosen out of over 20,000 applicants.

In other news, this past March our group attended the APS March Meeting, held in New Orleans at the downtown convention center.
There we contributed four talks, Dr. Mao’s entitled “Magnetic phase diagram of (Sr1-xCax)3Ru2O7 (0 < x < 1)”, Dr. Fang’s entitled “Quantum Critical Phenomena in Ni3Al1-xGax Alloys”, David Fobes’s entitled “Anisotropy of magnetoresistivity in trilayered ruthenate Sr4Ru3O10: Evidence for orbital dependent metamagnetism”, and Jin Peng’s entitled “Relation between structure and magnetic properties in (Sr1-xCax)3Ru2O7“.
Over the past year we have expanded our projects from focusing on (Sr,Ca) ruthenates to include new materials.
Dr. Fang has led the search for new materials in our lab, utilizing our new furnaces for flux and vapor transport methods. We are also developing equipment to measure thermal properties using our existing inserts.
